Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt We must show the light to people In dark places. Listen to this statement, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness…” (John 12:46) Nobody likes to walk in complete darkness. Complete darkness almost paralyzes you and if you do have to walk you really don’t walk - you just kind of shuffle. You don’t know what is ahead of you, below you, or above you. I remember a few years ago the power went out in our house. We were engulfed in complete darkness. I happened to be kind of close to Teresa when it happened. I stood real still for about three seconds and then I screamed out, “Boo!” It is the closest she came to divorcing me. Ask yourself some questions. Do you feel like in your own life the power is out and you are living life in complete darkness? You really don’t have a clue why you are on this earth? You don’t have a clue what you are supposed to be doing with your life? You are facing a very difficult decision and you don’t know which way to turn? You keep looking for security, significance, and satisfaction, but nothing works? You just keep stumbling around in the dark. Jesus makes an incredible promise. He said the moment you come to Him, surrender to Him, and let Him become your light, you will never walk in darkness again. How can Jesus be so confident? There is only one antidote to darkness and that is light. Jesus knew that when He called himself, “The Light of the World.” He also knew that when He called us the same thing, because Jesus said to His disciples in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:14) Of the seven things that Jesus calls himself this is the only one that He also calls us.
