Morning Thoughts: The Problem with Nigeria. Its monday morning all over Nigeria, most Nigerians are hustling and bustling about as usual, trying to make one meeting after another, in some other parts of Nigeria, in some specific homes, the sun set on saturday, and blatantly refused to come up. We are busy carrying on as usual, whereas for some other people, the carrying on ended with a stampede at an ill-designed recruitment test. Has anyone cared to ask what number of people undergo JAMB/SSCE examinations on a yearly basis? As flawed as every human endeavor can be, and as challenging as arrangements can be, why havent we recorded such disasters in those situations? In this age of unprecedented internet penetration, what is so difficult to organize a computer based test? For 1000 naira paid per disenfranchised unemployed Nigerian, the fact that the Ministry of Interior is not yet beseiged by the people that went to write the test on saturday for a refund of their fee is a testament to the docility of the Nigeria Populace. When will we learn to stand up and take that which is rightfully ours? In some climes, the parody of saturday is more than enough reason to immediately mobilize street protests demanding regime change, but here, IT WILL PASS LIKE A SHIP AT NIGHT, Families will bury and mourn their dead, The ones that were defrauded will lick their wounds and patriotically attribute the funds lost and the injuries incurred to the complicated process of Nation Building, and at the very tail end of it, the same inept politicians will run for their offices again, give them T-shirts to cover physical nakedness, Lies to cover the mental nakedness, a small bag of rice, salt, maybe maggi and satchet tomato for their bellies and in swift action, steal their votes again. The much more agonizing truth is that this parody enacted is just for Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Customs Service has not done their own ooo, Nigerian Civil Defense, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Army, Airforce, Navy, Police and SSS are yet to do their own recruitment. Now do a mental projection the amount of souls that will be lost. The disgrace of a public servant known as the Interior Minister is credited with saying that those that died, basically killed themselves due to their own impatience, If its true that he said it, please can someone close to him please slap him on my behalf and ask this simple question, Where on earth has a recruitment test for a job that has nothing to do with sports, ever been done in a sports stadia? Rest in Peace to the dead.
