Morning doggie lovers, well with Spring only a few short weeks - TopicsExpress

Morning doggie lovers, well with Spring only a few short weeks away, I am already seeing some skin allergy issues flair up in some of the dogs I have been treating. Here in Brisbane, it has been a very mild winter so that is probably why. While allergies can be tricky at times to treat, here are some of the nutritional supplements I like to prescribe. I might us a number of these at once. And it goes without saying that feeding foods that are not processed and laden with chemicals is also important. Fatty acids: Omega -3 fatty acids in particular have a strong anti-inflammatory action and can also regulate the immune system Digestive enzymes-:in particular, bromelains (from pineapple) and papains (from papaya). These have anti-inflammatory action and also assist the complete breakdown of foods in the gut so they can be absorbed more effectively. Quercetin (a flavonoid) has a natural anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory action. I combine this with antioxidants such as Vitamin C and Resveratrol, and herbs such as Perilla seed and Albizzia. Herbs including Liquorice (has a natural cortisone like effect and is an adrenal tonic), Echinacea, Astragalus, Siberian ginseng, Reishi mushroom, Nettles, Milk thistle, Chamomile....the list is endless here!! Immune and Liver support is important. A good dairy-free, multi strain probiotic. This varies slightly depending on the specifics of the dog. B complex vitamins to support the adrenal and nervous system. Supporting gut immunity is essential also and this is always the basis of treatment, along with adrenal and immune support and detoxification. Each dog is individual, so I always tailor my treatment to their specific needs, but this gives you some general ideas.
