Morning reading on dealing with aversion. It is there: violent rage, animosity, annoyance, etc,. All rooted in hatred. Never easy to deal with but Thich Nhat Hanh explains, we can choose to use tenderness to open up the parts, Anger is like a closed flower in the morning. As the sun shines on the flower, the flower will bloom, because the sunlight penetrated deep into the flower. Mindfulness is like that. If you keep breathing..., mindfulness particles will infiltrate the anger. When sunlight penetrates a flower, the flower cannot resist. It is bound to open itself and reveal its heart to the sun. If you keep breathing on your anger, shining your compassion and understanding on it, your anger will soon crack and you will be able to look into its depths and see it roots. #easierSaidThanDOne But the first step is to practice, to try, and let the process open. And, of course, Peter Gabriel has made all of this so real in a song. The monster is our anger, our hatred, our jealousy, our impatience and we let it chase us, until, one day, if you have the courage to turn back and look into the darkness, you see this monster is just a baby boy, curled up on the floor. You cry until you laugh. What was I so afraid of?. (By the way, seeing Peter perform this orchestral version of Darkness while I sat front row center in Montreal a few years back was, well, just amazing) when I allow it to be it has no control over me i own my fear so it doesnt own me walking through the undergrowth, to the house in the woods the deeper i go, the darker it gets i peer through the window knock at the door and the monster i was so afraid of lies curled up on the floor is curled up on the floor just like a baby boy i cry until i laugh
