#MorningDevotion What Do You Really Love? 1 John 2:15-17 (NKJV) 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. I read these scriptures this morning and I asked myself; “What do I really love?” Let’s be honest, the world has some pretty amazing and attractive things that most often long for. If that were not the case then there would be no need for John to write us this warning. Our hearts do not have the capacity to love both God and the world. The love for one diminishes the love for the other and that is why we are beseeched to choose wisely. We are all tempted with fleshly lusts each and every day. The flesh makes so many demands and we are tempted to indulge because it feels good. Pleasures, appetites, addictions and all the crazy things the flesh demands, you and I need to subdue the flesh and rule over it otherwise it will destroy us. Then there are the eyes that see this and see that and we want everything we see. Like a little child who walks into a candy shop and throws a tantrum because daddy has refused to by him everything, we sometimes relate to God like that, throwing tantrum and claiming He has forgotten us because we want everything our little eyes lust after, especially in this age where every second we are bombarded with ads of the latest gadget that is on the market. What about the pride of life? Let’s be honest, who does not want to build a name for themselves from time to time? We all want to be the best, the greatest; we crave for acceptance applause, accolades of men. We want it all. All this things are in vain because they will perish with the world and they are not of the Father. Our focus should be on Gods will, to know it, to live according to it, because whoever does the will of God will abide FOREVER! Q: Where do you face your greatest struggle, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes or the pride of life?
