Most of my friends know that I am a movie buff so its not surprise that I loved this commercial. I agreed with the sentiment, for the most part, that British men have made great villains. Some play both roles very well... Some like Anthony Hopkins straddle that line of playing villains you actually root for like Hannibal Lecter. I understand that these three actors are the ones they cast in the commercial but I imagine they couldve found a more holier trinity of British Villains. If it were up to me, of course, Id keep Sir Ben... dude has always been a bad ass, no question. Dont get me wrong, I like Mark Strong and Tom Hiddleston, they are definitely coming into their own but Id rather like to see true legends of the acting game. If I couldve chosen the other two to go along with Sir Ben Kingsley, Id have chosen Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Anthony Hopkins. Now... If I were to pick an American triumvirate of actors who masterfully play villains, Id go with actors who primarily play bad guys so that would exclude the likes of Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro who have played enough good guy roles to not be considered. I gave this some thought and I came up with this list... Jack Palance, Christopher Walken, and James Spader. How did I choose these three over other greater actors? For one, I thought about actors, whom we could say played villains more than 80% of the time, so I cant go with men like Brando or even Robert Mitchum who have played some serious bad asses like Max Cady from Cape Fear. These actors played enough good guy roles to where we didnt always see them as the bad guy. Jack Palance is tops because when you scroll down his 100+ titles on IMDB you see he was always the villain. Even when he was a good guy, like City Slickers, he was a miserable prick! Christopher Walken... cant argue with that choice. James Spader... yes, a time or two, played a good guy but even when he has played a good guy, like in Boston Legal, he had contemptible qualities almost blurring the lines between good and bad. Hes the type of guy, a rare actor, who can play a total douche but be completely cool at it. You gotta love a guy who plays despicable characters and yet still manages to be charming, at the same time.
