“Most of the world fears the raised fist while we in America fear the raised eyebrow.” ~Mack Stiles Here, Stiles is referring to a loss of national courage, boldness, a willingness to stand alone if our moral compass dictates, as it once did. We have bowed to and become like the rest of the world, and are now sinking in its mire, both moral and fiscal, as a result. The UN, the EU, Eastern Europe, Asia and the Middle East insist, dictate and pressure, as we cave and capitulate. It is said that we now lead from behind. It is a very silly imagination that conjures up such an idea. Leaders lead. To be a leader, is to be in front. Not better. Not superior. Just standing, tall, exemplary, visible, and alone if necessary, with a clear view of history in our rear view mirror. We no longer possess the testicular fortitude to stand on principle and set a strong example. We are a reed bending in the wind. And while the rest of the world breaks, we are not far behind.
