Most of you hear me talk about my nephew all the time. This is Takaya Lloyd, my twins baby, one of the loves of my life. He was born one month after we graduated from high school. He went to college with us. He was this yummy, easy, fun baby, who seemed to understand everything and just happily went with the flow when we had to disrupt his nap or bedtime to make another trip to the library or computer lab at the University of Miami, which seemed like all the time because we didnt have the luxury of a computer at home back then. Takaya is ridiculously smart (in addition to being so loving, composed, and fun, just like when he was a baby). He turned 18 August 31st. He finished his high school classes two years early, so is already nearly halfway through his Bachelors degree. He is the recipient of a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship. It has been an honor to help raise Takaya; but--truth is--he raised me, too. With something so precious at stake, failure was not an option for me. Once my heart met Takaya, I finally had the focus, clarity, and will that I couldnt seem to harness with any degree of consistency before knowing that kind of love. Thankfully, my pre-Takaya-life was very short. My life would not be what it is today without you, Takaya Lloyd. Takayas always making something amazing. As a toddler, he made skates that worked, jewelry for his mom and me, and the craziest booby traps, which somehow always ended up outside my bedroom door. As a boy, he made furniture, a skateboard, and a guitar, all of which functioned as they were supposed to. Now, this beautiful young man is making and directing short films. He is using a crowdfunding mechanism to raise money for his current project, Missing From Me and four companion pieces. His Kickstarter campaign began today. He has a pretty ambitious goal ($120K) so that his vision can be brought to life perfectly and in the highest quality. He has 30 days to meet his goal. If you feel called and can contribute $10, $25, $50, whatever, your support would be so awesome. Everything you could want to know about the campaign is here (https://kickstarter/projects/659577848/missing-from-me-and-other-projects), including the fun and creative incentives (e.g., original artwork made just for you, having main characters named after you, having your name featured in one of the main characters tattoos in the film, recognition in the credits) that he has developed to thank the donors who are helping to make this dream possible. As his proud and devoted Tauntie (Auntie), I have already pledged (of course) and am also matching his next five donations. I am hoping that I have to break the bank on this one. As always, for him, I will find a way
