Most of you probably spend a large amount of time on the web (some maybe most of your time!). You also know that you are constantly being tracked. No surprise here. But you dont know the extent of the tracking and the extent of the data sharing that goes on behind the scenes. So, I tried an experiment, which you can also replicate to check your mileage. Install the Disconnect Me (https://disconnect.me/) extension to Chrome/Mozilla browser (not available for IE yet). You will get a notification area on the top right that will tell you who is watching you and which companies are collecting your history for trading later. Just go to ESPN - I had 70 data collectors on this one page! Your mileage will vary - let the group know your results if you try this experiment. Of course, companies like FB etc are furious at this blocking software since it completely blocks all trackers and social media collectors - basically disrupting FBs business model.
