Mother Nature turned a cold shoulder on Colorado early today as a - TopicsExpress

Mother Nature turned a cold shoulder on Colorado early today as a fast moving cold front blew through the state. The front brought a welcome burst of 4-8 inches of snow to the mountains, while Denver and the Front Range picked up a skiff of snow early this morning. Most of the weather advisories and warnings that were in effect for the high country have been lifted, but you can always check Storm Shield or the weather alerts page on our website for the latest updates. The cold front is zipping off to the east of Colorado now and skies will gradually clear this evening. Some of the central and northern mountains may still pick up another 1-2 inches of snow above 10,000 feet, but this storm is winding down quickly. Temperatures certainly took a dive in the wake of the cold front! Readings on Monday were a good 20-30 degrees colder in Denver and across northeastern Colorado, compared to the very mild numbers we enjoyed Saturday and Sunday. By mid-afternoon, Denver was only in the upper 30s with a wind chill in the mid 20s! By Tuesday morning, skies will have cleared statewide and lows will dip to the mid teens in the mountains, with 20s to near 30 degrees and lower elevations. Tuesday will be a dry, but cool day with highs in the 50s on the plains and 40s in the high country. The weather pattern across Colorado will return to mild and tranquil for Wednesday and Thursday as the main storm track over the nation will extend from the Great Lakes to New England. If you are traveling in that direction or have family out that way, they are expecting another round of rain and snow over the northeast quarter of the country Wednesday through Friday. Our next chance for any rain or snow will hold off until Friday, when a weak cold front will move quickly across the central Rockies. This next system is not at all impressive for us, but will also gain strength and moisture as it swirls east of Colorado. The folks on the East Coast can expect another big storm system late next weekend! Back here in Colorado, Friday will bring a slight chance for rain and snow, followed by cooler weather on Saturday and more dry pleasant conditions for next Sunday into the following week. Eventually, we will get in on the stormy weather action, but for now, these brief light storms are about all we can expect through the middle of November.
