Motion raised as follows; S4M-07560: That the Parliament acknowledges that the Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS) Glasgow and Western Counties Area is offering free holiday accommodation on Cumbrae to its ex-service personnel members and their families; notes that the accommodation is being offered to all veterans, including those who have served in recent conflicts; understands that the RBLS Glasgow and Western Counties Area covers a wide region, including Oban, Campbeltown, Grangemouth and Stirling and that it is generously offering to meet the costs not only for veterans in its own region but also for members from the RBLS Ayrshire Area; recognises that the RBLS has around 40,000 members, over 170 branches and a number of social clubs; considers that it has worked tirelessly for over 90 years to raise funds for charities and initiatives that benefit veterans, including the annual Poppy Week; notes the work that the charity does in offering support and advice to veterans; understands that it gives veterans a voice on issues including health, disability, financial hardship and homelessness; believes that the RBLS works alongside other charities that help veterans by providing welfare, benevolence and war pension appeals support; considers that the RBLS has an important role in leading remembrance and ceremonial activities and in promoting comradeship; believes that the opportunity for veterans and the families to enjoy the free accommodation on Cumbrae is extremely generous and will be of great benefit by allowing people to relax in, and enjoy, the Millport area, and wishes the RBLS all the best.
