Moultrie, 1950. A street scene in Moultrie showing a parade going north down Main Street. Note older cars and First Baptist Church at right. Note the older model bicycle leading the parade. This model was called an ordinary in the United States and a penny-farthing in England. The English name was based on the fact that the front wheel was large like a penny, and the rear wheel was very small like a farthing. A common slang expression for this vehicle is a bone shaker, and it had no gears or brakes. dlg.galileo.usg.edu/cgi-bin/vanga.cgi?query=id:clq045
