Mr. Chaisson, I was very disappointed with the story/report that you ran on March 25th regarding Arbor View Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Edinburgh. It was stated in the video that you had been investigating the story. However, there is no evidence of a true investigation. You simply regurgitated a report accessed via public records. An investigation implies a searching for details or to CAREFULLY examine. It includes synonyms such as SCRUTINY and EXPLORATION. It SHOULD include a systematic, thorough attempt to learn the facts about something that is complex or hidden. Reading an online report might be the beginning of this process, but it certainly is NOT the beginning, middle and the end. Your report painted an incomplete picture of what the Arbor View facility is REALLY like. Your report just focused on the storm clouds hanging over a building, ominously threatening all who are inside. However, it failed to include what is going on INSIDE. Don’t just observe from afar. Get a little closer. As a former employee, let me help you take a peek through one of those windows. Here is what you can expect to see INSIDE should you choose to stop taking pictures of the bird in the palm tree outside. First and foremost, you will see the owners of this facility stopping by each room and checking on their residents. You will see owners who genuinely care about the quality of life being offered to those in their care. You will hear them call the residents by name. You will hear them share their heart, their compassion with the staff and families. You will hear them challenge their staff and hold them accountable for providing top notch care. And….you will see tears; tears that flow from a heavy heart when they have to say “Good Bye” when a resident passes away. Tears of compassion as a family member or staff member shares their struggles with them. As a result, you will see a dedicated staff, working tirelessly to take care of the precious lives that have been entrusted to them by their loved ones, despite the ugly clouds outside. You will see a dining hall full of families sitting down at a table with a table cloth covering and a flower centerpiece. They are there to have a meal together with their mom, dad, brother or sister. You will see smiles. Oh, and you will see a group of residents enjoying a HEALTHY meal. Put your ear to that window and you will hear stories of old. You will hear laughter. Travel down one of the hallways and you will hear nurses and assistants alike saying things such as “Do you need anything else”? “Are you ok”? “You sure look pretty today”! Arbor View Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Edinburgh is making a difference in people’s lives. Just ask Jeremy Valladares. Now that is a story. So Kirk Chaisson, I challenge you to get out your journalistic paintbrush and finish what you started. Right now your work has just one color. Please, paint for us a complete picture of what is really going on. You can leave the clouds there if you must. However, be sure to use a different colored brush to paint the smiles, the laughter, the dedication, the love and compassion at Arbor View, that is giving a very important part of our society some peace and dignity. I look forward to seeing your completed work. Sincerely, Brandon Vail
