Mr. Predictor Brentford vs Fulham – Tuesday 26th August – League Cup There’s a West London derby on show here, between two Championship sides who have made slow starts to their league campaigns. They haven’t faced each other since 2008 when Fulham one 2-0 on the road. Brentford won on penalties after a 6-6 thriller with Dagenham and Redbridge to get here and I think a similar route may be necessary for a winner. Therefore, it seems the best thing to do is place a bet on a draw at 90 minutes and then enjoy the drama of extra time and perhaps penalties. Mr Predictor’s Verdict: Brentford 1 vs 1 Fulham (Long List selection 3) Arsenal vs Besiktas – Wednesday 27th August – Champions League The return leg of this tie is finely balanced at 0-0. Arsenal saw talismanic midfielder Aaron Ramsey sent off in Istanbul and is therefore banned, which is a blow to the Gunners. In the first leg, Besiktas had more possession and more chances, with former Chelsea striker Demba Ba causing a nuisance. He hit the bar after just six seconds, when he shot directly from kick off. His ability should be a concern for Arsenal, but I think the north London side will get through. Mr Predictor’s Verdict: Arsenal 2 vs 1 Besiktas (Long List selection 1) Bayer Leverkusen vs Kobenhavn – Wednesday 27th August – Champions League The first-leg of this tie was a thrilling 3-2 encounter, with all five goals coming in the first half. I think Kobenhavn will regret not finding an equaliser in the second half, but they can have little complaints. Leverkusen had 20 attempts on goals compared to Kobenhavn’s nine and they also have Stefan Kiessling amongst their ranks. He scored his sixth goal in two games last week and I think the home side will record a victory in this one. Mr Predictor’s Verdict: Bayer Leverkusen 2 vs 0 Kobenhavn (Long List selection 4)
