Mr. Tan, Should health care be free for people above age 80? How to make sure that this does not burst the Government budget, as the treatment of old people may be very expensive. Your views? REPLY I agree that old people, above 80 years, should be entitled to free health care. But, this should be at the basic level, i.e. to cover treatment for chronic illness and for medical conditions that are treatable. It should not cover expensive treatment for cancer and for organ failure, as the cost is astronomical and the chance of success is low. If this difference is recognized and accepted, it is easier for the Government to take this important milestone decision.
