Mrs. Valentina Alexandrovna Gennusa, 86, of Albany, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Phoebe North Hospital. The Trisagion services will begin at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening with visitation following in the chapel of Hall and Hall Funeral Home until 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2013 at The Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 222 W. Oglethorpe Blvd. Albany, GA. 31701. Father Ignatius will officiate with interment to follow at Floral Memory Gardens. Born July 19, 1927, in Shanghai, China, Mrs. Gennusa was the daughter of the late Alexander Alexandrovich Fofanov and the late Ekaterina Eframovna Fofanova. Mrs. Gennusa worked for many years at Coats and Clark and in addition to being a seamstress she enjoyed taking college classes, ceramics, crochet and was proud to speak five languages. She was a member of The Holy Trinity Orthodox Church of Albany. She was a former member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church for many years where she was a part of the soup kitchen and many other aspects of the church. She was the founder of TOPS Georgia number 245 of Albany and was a member of The Golden Key Club. She volunteered with local hospitals, hospice and local nursing homes. She also was a school volunteer that enjoyed teaching others how to read. She gave of her time with Meals on Wheels and many other service related functions throughout Albany. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gennusa was preceded in death by her husband, MSgt. Joseph J. Gennusa; son, Charles A. Gennusa; daughter, Virginia M. Cheek; three grandsons, Daniel “Chopper” Joseph Monroe, Justin Joseph Knighton and Jason Alan Knighton and sister, Nina Gallagher. Survivors include her children, Joseph and Charlene Gennusa of Lilburn, Anita and Paul Willoughby of Albany, Katherine Monroe of Texas and Natalie Goethe and Tom Mooney of Janesville, WI; brother and sister-in-law, Vova and Ryta Fofanoff of Idaho; sister, Vera Tretiakoff of California; grandchildren, Cindy Bartley, Shawn Cheek, Deena Spell, Davy Cheek, Scott Gennusa, Stephen Gennusa, Rick Monroe, Karen Monroe, Michael Monroe, Tracy Goethe, Michael Goethe, Joe Goethe, Sam Knighton and Cherry Kemp and 14 great-grandchildren.
