Then we learned of his Tokyo visit. We got to book an interview (the only one among women’s magazines) after much negotiations, and reworked the page layouts at the last minute to run a four page spread that includes the latest interview and photo shoots. Ｔ 今回のフィーバーぶりはすごかったですね。ＴＶドラマ「 シャーロック」が日本でも人気とはいえ、いわゆるカッコいいイケメンとも違う彼がここまで人気が出るということは女子が憧れるスター像も新時代に入ったと実感しました。 T: His Tokyo visit this time caused quite an excitement. Sure, BBC Sherlock is popular here, but he’s not your typical handsome face. Japanese women’s super-star ideals must be evolving. Ｙ ベネディクト自身の人間性を理解したうえで、キュートだと感じる人がたくさんいるっていうのは、見る側の目もどんどん肥えてきているよね。しかも、人気も実力も備えたスターなのに、素顔の彼は全然気取っていない。取材中もインタビュアーの目をまっすぐに見て答える態度に好感を持ちました。今回のインタビューには、そんな彼のユーモアや誠実な人柄、ファンへの熱いメッセージがこめられてます。日本のファンの方は必読ですよ！！ Y: Women are finding him cute after learning his personality. I myself found him to be a wonderful person after seeing him give generous answers during our interview. Despite his fame and enormous talent, he is so grounded. Our interview shows his kindness and wit. It also includes his sincere message to his Japanese fans. It’s a must-read! Ｔ ひとつひとつの質問に対して、適当に流さないでしっかりと答える姿が「本当にいい人なんだな」と。ちょっと心配しちゃうくらい誠実なんですよね。 T: He gave a sincere and generous answer to every single question. What a nice man. At times I felt like maybe he was a bit too generous. Ｙ しゃべりだすと止まらないけれど、今回の来日ではそんな自分をわかっていて、「あ、またしゃべりすぎたね」と、いちいち反省する姿もキュートでした。 Y: He can’t stop talking once he opens his mouth. It was so cute he sometimes had to stop and remind himself out loud to keep his answers short. Ｔ 昨年１２月の初来日で取材したとき、確かにひとつの質問に対して１０分くらい話していて、取材する側としては焦りましたが、シャーロックに重なるオタクっぽさが全然憎めなくて逆に好印象でした。今回は本人がそれを気にしていたけれど、結果としてすごく話してた（笑）。 T: When I interviewed him for the first time in December, I was a bit concerned that he spent 10 minutes answering each question. But I also found it to be pleasantly Sherlock-like. This time, he was aware of his tendency for long answers but still ended up talking a lot (laughs). Ｙ 今回はなんといっても人気シリーズ『スター・トレック』 で世紀の悪役を演じたわけで、体を鍛えて経験を積んだせいか、だいぶ男らしく大人になった印象。もちろん謙虚で、マイペースなところは変わらずだったけれど。 Y: This time, perhaps because he trained for and experienced the villain of the century role, he seemed a bit more matured than he did in December. His generous and grounded personality has remained the same, though. いちばん彼らしさが出ていたのは、今回読者プレゼント用に撮影したポラロイド写真を見て、着ているシャツのシワが気になって時間がタイトのなか取材時間を延長してまで、「日本のエルの読者にあげるのだから」と、自らシャツのシワをのばして再撮影に挑んでくれたところ。 I especially felt his generosity while we were taking Polaroid photos for the Elle Japon reader contest. He saw the initial photos, didn’t like the wrinkles on his shirt, and spent additional time with us despite his tight schedule to press the wrinkles and redo the shoot so that his fans can see wrinkle-free photos. Ｔ 「カジュアルなスタイルのシャツだから体にぴったりフィットしないんだ」と言いながら、そのこだわりぶりに英国紳士を垣間見ました。映画会社の人にとっては時間が押してしまってヒヤヒヤものでしたが。 T: I found the whole thing to be so British gentleman-like - minding the wrinkles while explaining that it is a casual shirt and not meant to fit tight. The Paramount PR team was definitely worried about the time, though. Ｙ あえて鹿柄を選ぶところがベネディクトらしくてチャーミング。 The deer print goes with his charming personality. 久しぶりに大ブレイクした英国俳優だし、演技力もすごい。ハリウッド俳優とはまた違う新時代のスターとして私たちを楽しませてくれそうですね！ It’s been a while since we saw a rising British star of this magnitude. His talent is absolutely enormous.
