Much is studied, written and discussed about canine body language and behaviour. Many fine professionals delve into detail on this vast topic but for the average person like me its useful to know that your dog is almost CONSTANTLY bouncing signals and communication to you...on and off the training field. What the dog is expecting or reading off us in return is THE KEY question to ask yourself . So many people introduce human understanding into dogs and both suffer a disconnection or misdiagnosis to issues. Many customers walk in with dogs who pay no attention to them whatsoever and who start to form meaningful bonds with us in a matter of minutes. So! in questioning ourselves, it immediately expands the approach from just conventional or session based training to a more constant, natural connection of constant co existence. This immediately brings the realisation of our responsibility and focus back onto us and what we are transmitting back to the dog. So many of us expect a dog to stop behaviours that have been learned or developed out of misunderstanding, unawareness or neglect. In understanding what we have in our dog, starting from the purpose of the breed/dog type, perhaps we may better understand its needs both as an individual and as a canine pack creature. Im sure most of us want to make the connection with our companions extend beyond more than just a leash. WVJ Rogue Royalty
