Much like Kekexili, though not as bleak and dark, this too is an extremely beautiful portrayal of a harsh land, south Mongolia. The Gobi desert is shot in full glory, and the sandstorms captured with finesse, with the nomadic life unfolding in its rustic and rare manner. The rituals, the music, the camels, are all magnificent and brings to life a story that is remarkable yet real, the makers took 23 days with the nomads shoot this one. Sometimes the bactrian camels will just entrance you with their nuances, they are captured with perfection. The story is about a camel colt who is rejected after birth by its mother and how a music ritual will bond them back, bringing happiness to the nomad family. The little boy who plays Ugna is really wonderful in his role. This is not an extravagant story, moving idyllically through the sunny days and elegantly, gradually stitching together a colorful fabric that at once is amazing, simple and full of beauty. The childbirth sequences are some of the most expertly shot ever, and the nomads are not at all shy from the camera, instilling a natural and deeply peaceful tone to the movie.
