Mukul hits out at Purno, says projections of a BJP win is hogwash Terms P A Sangma as a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ Biplab Kr Dey Tura, 25th Mar: The run up to the MP elections in the Garo Hills region got hotter today with the Meghalaya CM, Mukul Sangma launching an attack against the veteran PA Sangma, calling him selfish, self centered as well as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He also termed the prediction of the BJP winning the coming elections as a hog wash and was confident of a Congress win. Mukul dug into Purno stating that he (Purno) was attempting to fool the people of Garo Hills. The CM visited the West, South and East Garo Hills region today to garner support for the Congress candidate, Daryl William Momin. He would continue the campaign for the whole week and would continue until the April 9th LS Polls. Launching an attack on the BJP team, Mukul said, “Modi magic will not work. Congress will once again win and come back to power. Purno is drumming up support by saying that BJP and NDA will form the government. This is totally incorrect. He is doing so for his vested interest. Let me tell you, he (Purno) is an agent of the BJP and is contesting the poll in NPP ticket to propagate the message of RSS. Perhaps, a wolf in sheep’s clothing”. He further castigated Purno saying, “If BJP is allowed to form the government. There will be a chaotic situation. BJP is guided by the RSS and they believe in one religion. If that happens, minorities in India will face a tough time. How can Purno forget that when he was in Congress he opposed BJP policies and he is now leaning on them to woo votes? He further clarified on the accusation of PA Sangma for being Ampati centric, “Today development in visible across Meghalaya. I have ensured completion of major road connectivity in Garo, Khasi and Jaintia hills”. The much hyped Tura – Shillong route via Rongjeng and Nongstoin was already coming up. He further argued that none till now had taken an initiative to set up medical and engineering college in Meghalaya and he was the initiator and it was not only in Ampati that development was happening. He justified the Congress government’s approach for holistic development in the state in the rallies at Songsak, Chokpot, Ashugre and Melliem. He then blamed the unstable governments in Meghalaya for the delay in the inking of the peace settlement. He explained, “In 2004 suspension of operation was signed between ANVC, state and centre. However, the settlement was delayed due to failure of successive coalition government in Meghalaya. We have inked an agreement for settlement with the ANVC in 2013 and talks are in the final stages. Today we have a stable government and we have the mandate. Our government has postponed the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council election to facilitate a permanent solution to pave way for peace in Garo hills”. He appealed to all gathered to vote for Daryl William Momin is elected to represent Garo hills in parliament to ensure a holistic approach to development terming him as the prodigy of Williamson Sangma, the founder chief minister of Meghalaya. “Daryl has the DNA of politics, he is young, educated and has the capability to lead us. Congress has selected Momin because we believe in building a next generation youth leaders”. Lashing out at Purno, he said, “Purno is very ambitious. He had quit active politics saying that youths should be given space, when Agatha Sangma was fielded as Lok Sabha candidate. Now, he wants to return seeing that his party has failed to make a mark in state politics. He thinks that he will get a cabinet berth in the NDA government”. Mukul went ballistic in his anger against the veteran. He said, “When Purno decided to contest presidential election, he did not think about his daughter, who was a cabinet minister. He quit NCP and launched NPP to contest the presidential election as an NDA candidate. He failed in all his attempts. He is a desperate man and wants to take a last chance before he dies. He does not think about Garo hills or his children. If we vote for Purno, our vote is lost”.
