Mum question: I am bedsharing with and breastfeeding my 20 mo, - TopicsExpress

Mum question: I am bedsharing with and breastfeeding my 20 mo, which I have LOVED up until now, but I am 15 weeks pregnant and want to gradually night wean her and have her sleeping in her own bed. She is currently feeding for between 2.5-3 hours through the night (!) and I am not getting any sleep, so am worried about the baby growing inside me. She will only fall asleep attached, and if I try to take her off the breast she gets absolutely hysterical. What is the most gentle way to change this? What should I try to stop first : feeding her to sleep, bedsharing, or night wean her? She does get put down in her own cot once asleep at the start of the night, it is only when she wakes in the night that she comes in with us. I would like to Tandem Breastfeed when the little one comes so dont want to harm my breastfeeding relationship either. Please help, I would really like some advance as to where to start! Thanks, Amy Pinky says: What a great job you have done! I would start with moving her into either a bed or a mattress on the floor so you can snuggle/breastfeed her there and move away from her - she may sleep longer there than in her cot - if she wakes settle her with a breastfeed on her mattress rather than cosleeping in your bed, then if you are awake enough, go back to your bed - she may again sleep longer without the breast in such close proximity. At this age you can make a lovely fuss about a big girl bed . Soon you can consider night weaning by reading the lovely childrens book Nursies when the sun shines to sow the seeds of cuddles during the night and boobie when its morning. You might also like to have a look at the Dinasnores CDs which are lovely simple meditation style stories to help relax little ones. I have more about weaning /making changes in my ebook Weaning With Love shopwithpinky/weaning-with-love-ebook-by-pinky-mckay
