Mum question: Im a first time mum and in in the first few months - TopicsExpress

Mum question: Im a first time mum and in in the first few months of my little ones life I used to get very upset at my babys battle to nap each and every time. I ended up using all the sleep crutches we are warned not to use (rocking, singing etc). Finally at around 6/7 months we got into a routine. She goes down for a short nap in the morning and a long one in the afternoon. She sits on my lap as i sitwhile I play lullabys and within 15 mins is asleep on my lap and then transferred to her cot. At night it has been routine to finish with a feed so ultimately she is fed to sleep at night. She wakes once around 2am for a feed and usually goes back down until 6 but lately its been tricky getting her back to sleep. So Ive a couple of questions.. We want to move her to her own room as shes currently in our room and is now 8 months old.. How do I go about getting her to self settle, ie put her down in her cot to fall asleep in her cot, and how to I change things at night so that shes not feeding to sleep? Pinky says: You are doing a wonderful job - self settling is a myth - some babies do it but really almost all need some help to calm and sleep well. Your baby is sleeping very well for her age so please dont stress about this. Here is a blog about weaning off feeding your baby to sleep - also check out my book Sleeping Like a Baby ( pinkymckay ) for more in depth info. boobiebikkies.au/blog/how-do-i-stop-breastfeeding-my-baby-to-sleep/
