Music education opens doors that help children pass from school - TopicsExpress

Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them - a world of work, culture, intellectual activity and human involvement. Gerald Ford I have spent many hours with band kids over the past 12 years. I watched our school redevelop a band program after years of not having one. Sadly and due to ignorance (yes I said ignorance) it was challenging because of labeling and stereotyping of children who participated. I could give you so many examples of how truly ignorant that is however the ones that have that mindset probably couldnt comprehend so instead I will focus on the positive. This is what I have witnessed in these kids: The development/improvement of: work ethics, setting and achieving both individual and team goals, teamwork, thinking and problem solving skills, discipline, self motivation, group motivation, leadership, social development, tolerance, acceptance, PRIDE, confidence, integrity, joy of accomplishment and overcoming disappointment... Think about the impact these skills will have on their lives. The awards, accomplishments and scholarships over the years are just too numerous to list. This marching / football season has been incredible. The camaraderie between our band, cheerleaders, football team and fans has been amazing. I cant wait to see what the future holds for this program.
