Muslim: 2015 will be the year of the resisters ANF/ÇAĞDAŞ KAPLAN/ MEHMET ZEKİ ÇİÇEK - KOBANÊ 30.12.2014 10:00:10 Kobanê Canton Prime Minister Enver Muslim said that 2014 had been a year of historic resistance in Kobanê in defence of the free democratic model being constructed in Rojava. He added that 2015 would be the year that the promises of those resisting in Kobanê would be realised and a democratic system established. The YPG and YPJ fighters’ resistance is continuing gloriously as 2014 comes to an end and the dreams of ISIS and its collaborators come to naught in Kobanê. The YPG and YPJ fighters have become a symbol of resistance all over the world, and as they continue operations in Kobanê. The canton’s Prime Minister Enver Muslim evaluated the developments of 2014 and their expectations for 2015 for our agency. ‘Their aim was to throttle our system of democratic autonomy’ Muslim said that Kobanê had been targeted in particular by ISIS as it could serve as a model for a democratic Syria. He said that ISIS was not a native organisation, but a terrorist organisation supported by certain global forces. Muslim added: “ISIS terrorists wanted to carry out a massacre of civilian Kurds in Sinjar and Kobanê and were partially successful in Sinjar. However, in Kobanê they were foiled. ISIS wanted to not only massacre and displace people but also to enslave them. ‘Kobanê has become a symbol of resistance’ Muslim said that the youth of Kobanê along with those of the other 3 parts of Kurdistan had heroically defended the canton, thus frustrating the plans of the gangs and those who supported them. “The resistance for humanity and freedom displayed in Kobanê became a focus for the oppressed people of the world and many people from all over the world tried to come here.“ Muslim emphasised that women in particular had demonstrated solidarity with the women defending their land. ‘The importance of national unity emerged once again’ Muslim stressed that the ISIS attacks of 2014 had demonstrated once again the importance of national unity, adding: “Debates on the national congress have dragged on for years. Now this has become crucial and a joint defence force should be established. All the gains made in Kurdistan can only be defended by such a force. The assembling of the national congress should be prioritised.” Equality in the Middle East Muslim said despite all the attacks, he hoped that 2015 would be a year when peace came to the Middle East ‘We hope that there will be a democratic resolution in North Kurdistan’ Muslim said that both sides in North Kurdistan needed to make efforts towards a lasting peace, stressing that PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan had for years been working towards a democratic solution. “The Kurdish side has done all that was asked of it, but unfortunately the other side has not. We hope that progress will be made in 2015.” ‘2015 will be the year of the resisters’ Muslim said that not just in Rojaval, but in all parts of Kurdistan the Kurds were making efforts to construct a democratic Middle East. Muslim added: “In the Kobanê resistance Kurdish youths and women stopped the tanks of ISIS. They were able to do this on account of the philosophy of Apo. People have sacrificed their lives promising to construct a free, democratic system. Their sacrifice will result in a democratic system being constructed where all communities will be able to live in harmony.” Share on stumbleupon Share on print Share on bitly More Sharing Services 0 Muslim: 2015 will be the year of the resisters
