Musn’t disagree with the boy king With House Republicans - TopicsExpress

Musn’t disagree with the boy king With House Republicans struggling Friday to agree on a border security bill and a similar effort stalled in the Senate, Barack Obama all but said what most political pundits have predicted for weeks: He’s once again ready to wield the mighty “pen” and “phone” and rule by executive order. Speaking during a hastily-called news conference, Obama said, in part: “I’m going to have to act alone because we don’t have enough resources. Without additional resources and help from Congress we’re just not going to have the resources to fully solve the problem . . . While they’re out on vacation, I’m going to have to make some tough choices to meet the challenge.” The truth? According to the Congressional Budget Office, only $25 million would be spent in FY2014. Moreover, 100% of that $25 million would be spent by the Department of Health and Human Services for the housing, care, and relocation of illegal aliens, not the Department of Homeland Security – the agency responsible for securing the border. So, why the rush, Mr. President? (See: November midterm elections) “In circumstances where even basic, commonsense, plain-vanilla legislation can’t pass because House Republicans consider it somehow a compromise of their principles or giving Obama a victory, then we’ve got a to take action, otherwise we won’t be making progress on the things the American people care about.” The reality of what “the American people care about,” as it relates to immigration, is this: public approval of Obama’s position on immigration fell from 22% in May to 18% in July, according to a new AP poll. Moreover, 51% said they favor changing the law so that children entering the country illegally can be sent back to their home countries by border patrol agents immediately – without a deportation hearing. Again, the truth is at odds with the president’s claims. The bottom line? Obama has no intention of reaching an agreement with the House; he’s already threatened to veto their proposed border bill. While he says it doesn’t “give him enough money,” the reality is, it’s all about the midterm elections. Always has been. Obama and the Democrats want desperately to run against Republicans on immigration. And the pretend-threat of impeachment. It’s “all they got.”
