My 6 year old schooled me today. She does that all the time. This time it was with my own words. It reminded me of a time, several years ago, when without thinking I made an off handed comment about the scale and my client looked at me like I had just told her the Easter bunny wasnt real. Oh, shoot. Im not my best self right now. Im not living my values. Crap. So today when I was ranting (I want to say explaining or calmly telling, I want to minimize, but I was ranting) about a situation that I was frustrated with, she cocked her head and looked at me confused. She blinked a few times. And then she asked, But Mommy, why are you focusing on that? Why are you talking about the bad stuff instead of being THANKFUL? I love that she handed that back to me. Really love it. So I told her she was right. I thanked her for being such a great compass. I stopped immediately so we could talk about all that we are thankful for. And to focus on love as per her request. Im not a saint, obviously. I have shadows. I do my best to look right at them, but sometimes my best is not the best. Todays best improved very quickly upon the insistence of my kid. Pretty awesome. #smartkid #mommysalwayslearning
