My 6th post Prayer For Generosity by St. Ignatius of Loyola Lord, teach me to be generous, Generosity is not my strong point, Lord, Teach me to become like the widow in the Gospel. You said to her: The others put in what they had to spare... But she put in all she had. ( Mark 12:44) To serve you as you deserve: Lord, I must be honest, I rarely think of my life as being one of service to you. Help me to start taking to heart your words: No servant can be the slave of two masters. ( Luke 16:13) To give and not to count the cost; The widow did this; how different from me, Lord! Im always counting the cost, Lord, someone said: Who gives quickly, give twice. Help me to start giving twice. To fight and not to heed the wounds; Thats what the early Christian did. Lord, when I panic, remind me of their words: We hang on crosses, we are licked by flames, the sword lays open our throat, the wild beasts spring upon us... To do things is Roman. To suffer great things is Christian. ( Tertullian) To toil and not to seek for rest; This is what Jesus did throughout his life. Lord, what I grow tired and seek for rest, Remind me of your own words: Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart... ( Matthew 11:28-29) To labor and not to ask for reward; It is easy to fall into the rut of working for rewards, praise from others or money. Lord, help me to begin to live by your words: Your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you. ( Matthew6:18) Except to know that I am doing your will, Thy will be done! I say these words of the Lords Prayer every day. I want to begin to live them. Father...not my will...but your will be done. ( Luke 22:42)
