My 8 year old daughter had a VNS placed on last Tuesday. VNS therapy was chosen because of refractory seizures (myoclonic and startle/drop attack types not responding well to meds). Shes currently on Onfi, Keppra, Vimpat meds with max dosages on Onfi and Vimpat. VNS is currently set on the lowest setting at 30sec on and 5min off. We will start the increasing in 2 week intervals. Does anyone have any advice for this momma about the VNS in young children and the process ahead? (My daughter does have cognitive delays and cant express her thoughts/emotions very well, but is verbal. Shes asked about the incisions a few times and I tell her the Dr. gave her something to keep with her under her skin to stop her seizures. Im not sure she really gets it.)
