**My Blog from the Hospital** And some food for thought on encouraging others around us. Diary 11/16/14 12:00 Midnight-Well looks like Im back in the clink, the spa, the high priced hilton, who am I shittin its the hospital. As I write this Im getting wheeled to X-Ray by this lovely tech named Lisa for a beautiful two view chest shot. I hope they get my good side. Its a funny thing about hospitals, everything is cold; the floor, the rooms the x-ray equipment, its all freezing, but its always been a place filled with warm harts. It feels, calm, uncomfortably comfortable, if that makes sense. I guess safe would be a better word. So I arrive at the hospital, give them my shpeel, tell them my story. I start throwing out huge medical terms, pulmonary statistics and all around medical knowledge that Ive acquired over my vast career as a hospital quality care consultant. Damn that sounds better than patient, I may toss that on the ole resume! The doctor observing in the back of the triage room was most definitely taking notes, either that or drawing deranged semi-straight stick figures after pulling a 12 hour shift. Regardless he seemed intrigued by me medical history, or just really loved drawing stick figures... Anyhoo, after the normal barrage of questions, with the same highly detailed answers I got wheeled back to my penthouse suite in the ER, I had my very own soap dispenser, and a highly fashionable modified bed sheet with sleeve holes and ties. In big bold letters the tag said SIZE UNIVERSAL, and it wasnt lying. You could wrap the entire universe in this oversized hospital hiney hider. Like always I hopped on Facebook to update all my followers and supporters about me being back in the hospital. And I noticed I had a new message from someone I did not know, I was curious so I took a look, it was from Clint McCance and read: Hey bud check the page fishing for drew and share some of your courage and fight with that little guy. Hes battling cancer and is down and out! Youre just the inspiration he needs. -Clint A fellow angler battling health issues? You betcha Im gonna take the time to shoot him some words of encouragement. I can tell you from experience, people telling you that your an inspiration, and changed their view of life is an amazingly rewarding experience. But there are times when even the most influential people are in desperate need of inspiration themselves. Ive been there. Sitting on that hospital gurney and reading Drews story definitely put a pep in my step. Search Facebook for the Fishing for Drew page, and give this little donkey slaying, cancer dominating super stud a follow. After reading his amazing journey I took some time to shoot him some words of encouragement and introduce myself. Drew, Hey there my little fishing buddy! Been following you and your fight, I gotta say you are quite the inspiration, not only to me but a lot of people, and never forget that. My name is David Cosner Im 25 and live in Austin Texas and love fishing just like you! I have also spend A LOT of time in the hospital, I guess thats two things we have in common, so by The Rules that officially makes us friends. I have a really rare lung condition and was diagnosed when I was 17 years old. Since that time I have had 190 lung surgeries, lost two thirds of my right lung, and undergone countless rounds of chemo. My good buddy Walker Smith at Wired2Fish (who are HUGE fans of yours by the way) wrote this on me, maybe be it will help inspire you like you have inspired me. wired2fish.scout/story/1469104-the-power-of-bass-fishing I just want to let you know Ive been praying for you, and although the fish may not be biting, never ever stop casting, never give up. Always remember to do what you love and love what you do, do what YOU want to do in your life, do what makes you happy. Keep your head up Drew, your a fighter, and the world needs more people like us. Keep Calm and Chive On and tight lines. -Blessings from Austin, David Cosner Life can be hard, Ive never heard of the School of Easy knocks, only hard ones. We should reach out to our fellow man, and encourage them, give them hope, warm hugs and uplifting words. Its amazing what a little message can do, and I hope this helps him as much as his story helped me tonight. Life has a mean right cross, its caught me a few times, and yeah Ive stumbled, but I got up, squared up, pushed that challenge up against the ropes and thew a mean uppercut for the knockout. Like Rocky Balboa said, Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that! Here a link to the actual movie scene if anyone needs a little pep talk 😉 Link:youtu.be/iy8-hNyWEEw Its now 1:50am, Ive found out Im being admitted, I asked for a room in IMC which is the nice new pimpin side of the hospital, it pays to know people in this joint. So in closing I just want to encourage everyone to live a life that in one way or another betters others. Volunteer, donate, listen to someone who needs to talk, tell your relatives you love them, smile. We can all help make the world a better place. Im going to leave you with one of my favorite Bible versus from Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Blessing always from your one(ish) lunged Superman, David Cosner
