My Boyhood Home: Winona Court This past summer I went to visit the area I grew up. I was born in one house until I was about 2, and then we moved across the street in another house until I was in the fourth grade. Then we moved again and I went to Bristow Elem. Back then, it was a nice quiet place with all white house, and small white sheds out back, they were all almost identical. It was like the movie Pleasantville or Leave it to Beaver like! It had been sometime since I had visited there, and I wanted to go back and take some photos before the homes get torn down eventually. The whole time I was walking around my eyes remained glossed over with tears of joy, happiness, and many fond memories of this childhood dreamlike place. It was the launching pad of who I became, where I found who I was going to be, what I wanted to become. Everywhere I looked and turned I saw memories of every event, every year. All I had to do was look and turn around and like snapshots the memories were pouring in. My sister Lyn was with me, as we walked around together and wept a little because we started bringing up memories that we made together at young ages. This special place, a fairy tale like area to us, must have lost its glow long ago. The houses are in bad shape now and wont be there much longer. They were built in the early 50s, and havent been kept well. For those that knew me then know Im talking about Winona Court, in the Delafield district of Bowling Green. It was a special place to us as kids because our grandparents on my mothers side lived there and two of my Aunts and Uncles! Yes, it was a special place to us back then, and always will be in my heart, and my memories! I made several childhood friends from that court and still stay in touch with them today through Facebook. I hope they recall those memories as well.
