My Friends, I have qualified for the June, 2014 Republican - TopicsExpress

My Friends, I have qualified for the June, 2014 Republican Primary Election for the Office of Lt. Governor of the State of Alabama. Thousands of Alabamians have joined our campaign because they share my belief that our State needs to embark on a new, productive course of leadership. Allow me to briefly introduce myself. I was born in 1960 in Jasper, Alabama and was raised in the small coal mining town of Sumiton that is located in eastern Walker County. I attended Sumiton Elementary School, Sumiton Jr. High and graduated from Dora High School. I have earned degrees from four colleges/universities and I am the first of my family to graduate college and earn a Ph.D. I am married to Linda Michelle (Gravlee) Cooke. Michelle is a Word Processing Specialist for the law firm of Burr & Forman LLP at the corporate headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. We have two daughters – Heather Cooke Hill and Heidi Cooke. Heather (age 26) is an Occupational Therapist. Heidi (age 21) is a Senior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and studying Health Care Administration and Occupational Therapy. I have served as a Youth Director, Christian Education Director, Pastor and District Administrator in my church denomination. I have been employed as purchasing agent for Fisher Scientific, warehouse manager for Immediate Business Systems and as an Adjunct Professor at Virginia College. While attending college I worked for Drummond Coal during the summer months to pay for my education. As your next Lt. Governor, I will aggressively work to pursue economic development that will recruit industry, create jobs and reduce Alabama’s unemployment rate. I will call for an educational summit to address and solve the educational issues that impact every level of our educational system. The repair and upgrade of our infrastructure is vital in helping Alabama’s economy to grow unhindered. Small businesses are our greatest economic engine of prosperity, but they are struggling to survive and provide jobs for hard working Alabamians. I will work to set small businesses free from restrictive regulations so that they can flourish and create more jobs. When I place my hand on the Bible and take the oath to uphold and defend the Constitutions of Alabama and the United States, I promise to defend all of our founding documents and not just the parts that seem convenient. This is a duty that I take very seriously and I promise to be a Lt. Governor that will manage the Senate with the standards of integrity and leadership that is expected by Republicans and respected by all Alabamians. The chaos and mismanagement witnessed in the Alabama Senate over the last three years must not be allowed to continue. As your Lt. Governor, I will work to have a strong, well-funded Judicial System and lead the fight against illegal immigration. I will defend our State Sovereignty and our 2nd Amendment rights. I will bring Pro-Life, Pro-Faith, and Pro-Family values to our state government that will honor God and our Founding Fathers. Together, we will work for Alabama’s energy independence as we develop our natural resources of coal, oil, natural gas and hydroelectric energy. Fiscal responsibility and smaller government will be the bookends of every policy. My friend, just because we are Republicans does not mean that everything we do is automatically right; but rather, because we are Republicans we must make certain that everything we do is right - done the right way for the right reasons and motives – with honesty and integrity. I will work full-time to fight against the liberal forces within Alabama that would raise our taxes, expand bureaucracies, hinder small business and destroy our public schools. I will work full-time in the fight against the Federal government that wants to control every aspect of our daily lives and take away our state sovereignty. I will stand strong against anyone, Democrat or Republican, Federal or State, who would lead us further down the misguided path of tax-and-spend, liberal, big government policies. Please remember, limited government works. VoteStan
