My Great Grandfather George W. Lacy was born in Ireland and came - TopicsExpress

My Great Grandfather George W. Lacy was born in Ireland and came to the U.S in the 1700s and ended up in Texas by 1750. He was around 17. He had gotten in trouble with British officials over freedom, and left Ireland to keep from going to prison for political reasons. When he came to Texas he brought a wagon train of 150 families, and settled in what later became Marble Falls, TX. He and his three brothers bred a dog called the Blue Lacy. It was made the State Dog of Texas in 2000, or close to that, because it is the only breed originating in Texas. It is part Grey Hound, part Scent Hound, and part Coyote. The breed was originally called the Lacy Hog Dog but that didnt sound good enough for the state dog so the legislature changed its name. George, along with three other men, donated the granite to build the capitol in Austin. For many years he had a set of rooms on the second floor. One of my relatives has been interviewed because of the Blue Lacy and quoted his name as being George Washington Lacy, when his name is George Wade Lacy. My Grandfathers name is Wade Hampton Lacy, h\my Father is Jack Wade Lacy, and I am Byron Wade Lacy. We all got our middle names from him, as a tradition.
