My Health Insurance Story I am about to be 36 years old - TopicsExpress

My Health Insurance Story I am about to be 36 years old and have had health insurance on again and off again for most of my life. With minor health issues here and there, I was able for the most part to stay healthy for most of my life. That was until about 4 years ago when I was in dire need of medical assistance. I did not have insurance at the time and because of a pre-existing condition I had, I was positive that I would be denied coverage. I was pretty much hopeless until I found out that new laws where being passed which would not allow insurance companies to deny you because of a pre-existing condition. Because of this law, I was able to get insurance and the medical help I needed which might have saved my life at the time. Since I had health insurance now I was totally against the ACA. The thought of every American having health insurance sounded like a nightmare. I would have to set doctor appointments months in advance, I would be running from pharmacy to pharmacy hoping they had my medication etc etc. I was lucky enough to work for a company that paid for my health insurance and could really care less wether the guy in front of me at the grocery store was insured or not. I had embedded the idea in my mind that health insurance was a privilege and not a necessity. That all changed eight months ago when I decided to end one career and eventually start another with the ultimate idea of returning for more education. I was able to find the near perfect job during this transition which offered great pay, great hours, and a perfect atmosphere. The only problem is this job did not provide health insurance and on March 1st my health insurance from my previous job had ran out. I had to find new health insurance and knew it was going to be a daunting task. Fox News had told me over and over again that the Obamacare Marketplace Website was a complete disaster. They said the website was always down, options where very limited, and it was anything but affordable. I cleared up a entire morning and afternoon and was having nightmares about being able to find insurance that I could afford if I was lucky enough to even get on the site. Low and behold on March 24th I was able to easily navigate through the site and look at sixty three different healthcare options (my previous healthcare provided me with three options) The packages ranged in price from easily affordable, affordable, and somewhat affordable. After about an hour, I was able to pick and pay for the healthcare plan that best fit my needs. 99% of the people I talk to who are against the ACA are already insured either through their spouse, their company, or mommy and daddy, but I guarantee you if they where in my shoes they would be all for the ACA. Today, I am one of the seven million people that was able to get health insurance and my medical needs will be taken care of. It was a fantastic idea that came from a Republican Governor from Massachusetts and implemented by our president.
