My LoveSong to the Methow: During my recent visit to my homeland I - TopicsExpress

My LoveSong to the Methow: During my recent visit to my homeland I came to better understand 2 very important things; resiliency & the risk of Love is heartbreak. Everywhere I turned there were people facing & overcoming the devastation of their battle with fire but yet they did not look or feel devastated. Instead, the people I encountered were strong, hopeful & optimistic. There was acceptance & curiosity alongside frustration and fatigue. There was laughter amid the long lists for the Insurance agencies. As for Nature, I came away with the vision of just how many green spaces remain & punctuate the dry, burned landscape. I could see the green forest through the burned trees. I could visualize the interconnections of the landscape & how Nature will slowly reclaim itself. My faith grew. As for the heartache, the tears we shared when we hugged, the bones I felt beneath the clothes of friends who were weak from too much stress & not enough sleep & from the general life has changed here forever consensus that we are coming to terms with, I have this to say; it is because we love this place so very much that we are grieving the loss of what we once had. The deep grief we feel means we care profoundly. We are invested. And with investment comes commitment. The Methow is a mighty place & its inhabitants a mighty people. We will rebuild. Nature will reclaim and recover. We will remain & prosper. When the gales force winds blew in on or close to Vickie Vicky Welchs birthday I was reminded of the words she left us with; Expect the unexpected. You were right Vickie. We are at the ready~!!~
