My Precious Moms Obituary will be in the Longview Daily News tomorrow Friday 10-10-14. I want to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support. Thanks for all the people who stopped by to see Mom and say goodbye, phone calls, texts, cards, and a very special thanks to my Church Family at Rivers of Joy for sending food in; and to my Pastors that came numerous times to pray with Mom, and have been there for us through this whole nightmare. We so appreciate and thank everyone. I will miss my Mom forever, she was the best Mom on earth I was so blessed to have her. But I know she is happy in heaven and I dont have to worry about her any more. But still unbelievably sad! I hope to see a lot of you at the funeral next Saturday the 18th please see details below. Kathryn E. (Halleck) Hillsbery, 86, went to heaven at 2:47 AM Tuesday morning October 7th 2014, at her home in Rainier, Oregon, surrounded by the love of her family. Kathryn was born in Lexington (Kelso) Washington, on August 7th 1928. She was the Daughter of George Valentine and Violet Wilma (Johnson) Halleck. As a young girl Kay loved being involved in Girl Scouts, and spending time with her Swedish Grandparents on their homestead at Silver Lake. Growing up Kathryn attended school in Kelso (class of 1947), and Longview Christian Church. After losing her Father at age 16, Kay quit school to help support her Mother who was battling Cancer. She worked as a waitress at the Lotus Café in Kelso. One night on the way to a dance with two of her close friends she met Jess, the love of her life. They married a few months later in Kelso on October 24th 1947. They made their first home in Sandy Bend; also living in Kelso and Castle Rock, before purchasing a 300 acre farm in Cape Horn/Washougal, Washington. Their farm was a gathering place for family and friends. She opened her home for extended periods of time to many children; loving them as her own, including: Johnnie, Nevada, Coleen and a Foster Son, Robert Craig. Kathryn prayed for many years to be able to have children. In 1955 her prayers were answered when they welcomed, Lauren Wayne into their home. In 1957 her oldest Daughter Judy was born. Soon after, the young family moved to Kelso, where they purchased a small neighborhood market, which Kay ran for 3 years. In 1961 their youngest child, Betsy was born. Kathryn spent a lifetime as a home maker. Creating a loving, caring, welcoming place; for all who entered. In 1983 they moved to their farm in Rainier, Oregon which she named “Mountain View Ranch”. She loved fixing large meals for the hay crew, family, friends and strangers alike. Her hobbies included: Writing cards and visiting with anyone in need of support and encouragement; cake decorating, baking, making china dolls, embroidery, genealogy, and giving warm loving hugs. She was involved in several organizations, including: The Sunnyside Grange, Cowlitz valley old time music association, Cowlitz Genealogy Club, and Peter Pan. For many years she worked at the election poles and served as a precinct committee person for the Rainbow district. She volunteered with Blue Birds, Cub Scouts, PTA and was an in -class volunteer. In the 60’s she attended both the Salvation Army and the Kelso Christian Church. She was very proud to be the official “grandma and great grandma” to generations of children at Rivers of Joy Church in Longview. Kathryn is survived by: her Husband of nearly 67 years, Jess L.
