My Tune-Tuesday pick this week is somewhat more personal than usual so I am dedicating it to my wife, Jerre. Tomorrow marks our 43rd anniversary. I would be hard pressed to find a song that verbalizes how I really feel inside as well as this one does. The Carpenters were well known for recording some of the greatest love songs of the last half century. Strangely, this one isnt one of their best known. But, over the years it has become my favorite of all the things they have done. It says what I feel in regard to my wife and our relationship. I remember the feeling of being incomplete and longing to find that one that God had in mind for me. At that time I was surrounded with beautiful, godly women(remember I was attending Ozark Christian College then) but just didnt find the right fit. So what was it about Jerre that made the tumblers click? Yes she was attractive(tall, thin, blonde and blue eyed) but so were many others; Yes she was holy and faithful, but at Ozark that was the norm, not the exception. In looking back I have come to realize that, in this woman, I had found someone whose every action seemed directed at doing good for others. I didnt just fall in love with her looks I fell in love with the way that she did all that she did to bring GOOD to my(and more importantly, OUR) life and the lives of those around us.43 years later(health and hard knocks not withstanding) this is STILL true. She is my best friend, my partner, my helpmeet, the rhythm of my heart, the foundation of my reason to go on and do so whistling and humming more often than cursing and grumbling. I have watched SO many fail at marriage and, in this day and age, a marriage of 43 years is almost unheard of. I got lucky and am so blessed because, after all this time, our most sincere and honest message to one another is still, Youre The ONE I Love! So share in my enjoyment of this great love song and in my celebration of the day I married the LOVE if my life.
