My Wandering Mind was burnt By the Heat Waves of the Hot Sun - TopicsExpress

My Wandering Mind was burnt By the Heat Waves of the Hot Sun But got Frozen on a Tear Drop A little late after Sunset When Memories haunted The Words and Innocent Face Of a Fifteen Year old Boy I met on the Hill Top University. Palm trees on either sides of the gateway Gave a warm welcome to me and my girl Those took pride on the grass bed Leaving a light green blanket free of dirt Sprinkles of water wash away their thirst With timely feed in green veins Song thrushes, robins and blackbirds Feed on the evergreen shield of earth Watching my girl taking those steps To reach her exam hall for the day I was standing near an Oak Tree Where the shadow leaves were gentle I took my seat on a small dry red rock Formed of lime and soil beneath the tree And was marked on my life span I have three hours to wait I was looking down with vague thoughts Of finding values of idle time But was deep into the darkness and light Of shadows and sun Soon the darkness filled the light To form the shape of a human I was firm that I should now look up To know how does and who is that Amazed by the fat face but cute Of a little plump boy of fifteen I guess Threw serious looks to my eyes And I was thoughtful on his presence Myself whispered “Who is this little Guardian” Among many elder guardians I saw there Did not leave a smile for a sake And myself tried more distance by dragging. Authoritatively he sat besides me smiling And truly I was relieved for the moment Me too smiled but kept mum for the moment With a mind splattered with thousand questions I thought to leave the shadow leaves And avoid the amaze for what may he smiled But how , as I am the one to give a reply For him to be near me ,a why and for what. I saw twelve marble steps down the main door And it was a quarter mile from the oak tree I stood up from the lime rock and moved For a lower marble where maples gave shelter Soon mind perceived a moving plump shadow It was of that boy who sat beside lime rock I rushed for those marble steps for maple shadows But was clear that boy’s shadow moved faster I sat two steps from ground and he one above mine I was perplexed of him following and did not turn back A sudden impulse made me to move to cafeteria It was the impulse to ask him “Do you wish to drink a juice”? His action was quick ,waving his head he joined me We both went down the hill slope towards cafeteria I ordered a black tea and asked him”What do you want” He gave me a signal to keep mum for him to think for a while His order was huge of orange juices of three big tumbler glasses Sandwiches, cakes ,biscuits and roasted bread with cheese I paid the bill for both and we moved up the hill for those steps The shadows were left that we went inside the main door All the chairs were filled by those guardians who were elders We moved to those granite steps towards the first floor I took my seat on the last step and he at far end of same step He asked ”With whom you came”I said “With my wife for her exam" I asked him in a gentle voice ”With whom you came” “With my elder sister leaving my younger ones at home” “Where is your home? Is it too far? ” was my next question “Yes it is, don’t think can reach home before the sun sets” “What do you do ? Hope you are in school” “ “No” I work for a wood mill near my home in village” “What is your father and where is he?” “He is no more” teardrops poured down from his eyes He just ran outside before I could speak anything When I came outside I could see people flowing out From the university building after the exam My search for him was in vain with a broken heart I thought what was he looking for , a big brother or father? Fate of a plump boy took his childhood to a saw mill so early In agony waiting for my girl to come back from exam hall I saw him leaving the main gate way holding his sister’s hands “Hey, Are you dreaming? Can’t you see me?Where are you? “Oh , you came ,shall we move ? How was your time? “Hey , It is going to rain few water drops on my hand “ “Yes it may rain” she never realised those were my teardrops . ………………………………MAPLE SHADOWS…………………………… ……………………………..by SUMESH K.T………………………………………………
