My ancestors participated in both types of Empire building Colonialism and Neo-Colonialism. During Colonialism when the Spanish came to America they offered my descendants free land to colonize the island of Puerto Rico. Today my cousins still have massive tracks of land in PR. After the US invaded Puerto Rico my family participated in wars of Neo-Colonialism. They fought for the US in World war 1,World war 2,Korea and Vietnam. Guess how much land my family was given for their conquest? NONE. If i would had served in Iraq and Afghanistan guess how much land i would be given? NONE. Under Neo-Colonialism the US conquers countries but instead of sharing the spoils (land or profit) with its veterans it places "puppet governments" and gives them a tiny piece of profits taken from their country, then the US fed govt takes a tiny piece also,then it hands over the vast majority of the profits to corporations and Israel the country that tells the US who to invade and take over. This is what they mean when they say the US is "Spreading Democracy".
