My apologies to my FB friends who tagged me on this meme; I didnt respond, partly because I was busy but also because I have a deep-rooted antipathy toward any efforts to mine my oh-so-important data for FB. But it seems that the meme may have had some good vibes for kid lit, and thats a good thing. So heres my list of the ten books that have stuck with me/influenced me. They are not all kidlit books, but many of them are: Charlottes Web, E.B. White My Side of the Mountain, Jean Craighead George Island of the Blue Dolphins, Scott ODell The Yearling, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Old Yeller, Fred Gipson Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain The Lives of a Cell, Lewis Thomas Arctic Dreams, Barry Lopez Burr, Gore Vidal PrairyErth, William Least Heat Moon Well, I guess you can see a pattern here. Lots of books about our human relationship with the natural world, andI guess about how we should be relating with each other.
