My baby just finished his first research paper. He had a little help. I am so proud of him. Here is what he wrote. Onix Navarro JR. 9/15/14 The digestive system Digestion is a process to break down food. It starts from your mouth. The mouth is where you start grinding down your food. From your mouth your food goes down your esophagus. Your esophagus is a long food tube. From your esophagus, it goes to your stomach. There it starts getting cooked by acid in your stomach. From your stomach it goes into your small intestine. From your small intestine it goes into your large intestine. Salmonella Bacteria causes diarrhea. It can enter your system if you don’t wash your hands and if you don’t cook your food all the way. The end of the digestive system is you letting out solid waste. When you start eating you put your food in your mouth and then you start chewing. In your mouth you have teeth called incisors, canines, premolars, and molars. You have a digestive juice in your mouth called saliva. It is made in the salivary glands your salivary glands also help with digestion. You also have food particles broken down in your mouth they are starches. In your esophagus you swallow your food. You have no digestive juice or food particles broken down by your esophagus. In you esophagus you have muscles to help you push down food. They help you because they relax and not relax to push down food. You also have a uvula and epiglottis. Your uvula helps you eat because if you didn’t have it you would eat and it would go up your nose instead of your stomach. Your epiglottis is there to protect your wind pipe. In your stomach your upper muscle relaxes to let food enter and lower muscle mixes food with digestive juice. You stomach is a j\shaped sac. Your food particles are broken down into protein. The digestive juice used is stomach acid. Millions of tiny stomach glands produce an enzyme called pepsin which splits apart proteins in the food. Behind your stomach you have your pancreas the purpose of your pancreas is to protect your small intestine from the acid in your stomach. Your small intestines job is to break down starches protein and carbohydrates. Your large intestines job is to make your food smaller so it can go through your rectum. Salmonella Bacteria causes diarrhea. It can enter your system if you don’t wash your hands or don’t cook your food all the way, like almost raw. If you don’t wash your hands salmonella bacteria will get in your body and they will multiply and your body will not be healthy. If you eat and eat you will throw up. The other reason why you throw up is because some people eat too much sugar or salt and fat. Now the end of your digestive system is poop coming out of your rectum. Digestion is a process to break down food. It starts in your mouth and works its way through the rest of your system till it comes out your rectum. In this process your digestive system takes out the nutrients your body needs. Sometimes it takes out bad things like salmonella which make you sick.
