My belt sander quit about a month ago. I decided to take it apart today since it is no longer under warranty. So Im removing all the screws when Carter comes over with a screw driver I presumed I had lost a week back but in reality had been claimed by him. He sits down and gets right to work sticking his screwdriver in screw holes and turning to help. Five minutes later we removed all the screws and pulled the motor apart. I do not like modern power tools, at all. The old ones were metal and specifically designed for parts replacement and long term use. These fiberglass and plastic monstrosities can not be fixed easily if at all. It turns out the motor brushes exploded (made out of graphite, middle center of second pic). Normally youd simply order up a new pair and replace the old ones since they wear over time. This black and decker has moulded plastic fittings that cannot be removed or replaced. So yeah, guess I will be sanding by hand for a while. At least Carter enjoys sanding blocks.
