My biological father I have not heard from in two years or more. Last time I heard from him he wanted to bring his wife to Florida and stay in my home for free. My real father, my grandpa, is dead. He died a few years back. I miss his lectures. Discussing old movies he liked to sit and watch. Talking about history. Talking about feminism. Being told that if I could be independent I could fix the shower door in the basement when it slid off. Being told to speak properly and not say like repeatedly like the girls in school at Mother McAuley. And having to do what my mama told me or having to deal with pops as my brother Tim affectionately called him. A parent is not always who birthed you but who wants to be in your life. I may have two moms but I definitely only have one dad. And he is gone now. If you get a chance to see your father tomorrow hug him. Tell him you love him. Look him in the eyes and tell him you are going to work harder in your life to make him proud. And enjoy spending the day with him.
