My book signing on November 18th at the Kilbourn Public Library - TopicsExpress

My book signing on November 18th at the Kilbourn Public Library went very well. It was a very cold night, around 0 with the wind chill, so I did not expect a big crowd. It worked out well because as people came in to get a book, there was time to talk a while to each person. One Vietnam veteran came in with his son, and told us how when he was on a training exercise in this country , he and his fellow soldiers narrowly escaped serious injury. It was a story his son had not heard before. I thanked him for telling it. I am glad my book is helping give veterans voice to tell me their stories. Another man came over to get the book because he said he was a child in the 60s and wanted to read it for historical perspective. One of the veterans who had bought two that night, one for himself and another for a family member who was also a veteran, told me two nights later how he enjoyed the story and the cartoons. And then, yesterday, I was at an American Legion Museum, giving them a copy of the book. A woman there had a husband who was a Vietnam veteran. She bought a book for him for Christmas. As I looked at the exhibits, I heard her laughing. It is so heartwarming to know that Vernon can make people happy again!
