My brother, Paul Pierce is the Director of the Springer Opera House in Columbus and theyve discovered this film from 1964 showing the very first efforts to save this Victorian Opera House which then was in a run-down area of Columbus and on the brink of being demolished. Today, the city is being revived thanks to the beautiful River Walk and the Spinger is a sparkling gem located in the center of the now-bustling city. Im proud of my brother for being the spear-head of the Springers restoration and revival, including its expansion and modern expansion including two additional performance areas, the Springer Academy, a year-long program that teaches theater crafts and acting to all ages and designation as the Official State Theater of Georgia. He also has created a lot of community support by way of his creativity, deep knowledge of acting and directing, scholarly historical awareness, his business acumen but mostly through his charismatic personality (a family trait). This film is really amazing. I encourage everyone to visit this wonderful treasure that is more than an architectural relic beautifully restored, but also a living breathing entity that has been brought to life by the many people who have made it a part of their lives!
