My cab driver last night was a survivor of the Rwandan genocide, - TopicsExpress

My cab driver last night was a survivor of the Rwandan genocide, and came to this country a refugee. 4 things I took away from that conversation: 1) I love this country--we are blessed to have what we have. With all of our dysfunction, we are still a people who embrace those fleeing oppression. 2) We take too much for granted--potable water for one. 3) I am in awe of people who overcome such unspeakable violence, and are able to be positive and pursue opportunities to make a better life. 4) I am proud to be a United Methodist. When he discovered I was a Methodist pastor, he almost pulled over to thank me. Evidently, brave Methodists sheltered, fed, and assisted in the escape of many caught in that egregious, tragic event. I love being a part of a group that combats injustice.
