My condolences to the bereaved families following the tragic and fatal road accident in Narok. Apart from the collective loss, i also have a personal loss: The traffic police will bow begin a witch hunting expedition on all Kenyan roads especially in Nairobi. Consequently, i am certain to be charged with overspeeding while driving my Mercedes Benz E240 Avantgarde at a mere 130km/h on the so called Thika Superhighway (the closest will will ever come to the German Autobans). Now to arrest me for doing just 130km/h, using a vehicle that has a maximum speed of 260km/h, (meaning that even at 130km/h, the car is still complaining) 12 airbags (meaning that in the unlikely event of a crush, i can come out as fit as a fiddle), ESP (meaning that it can never roll), a BAS (unlike ABS in most ordinary cars on Kenyan roads) is to say the least absurd, at worst an insult to the finest of German technology. It means comparing such a fine machine to other contraptions such as a Voxy (initially designed to be a movable chicken pen until the Japanese discovered that Kenyans have no qualms using it as a personal vehicle), or a Toyota Mark 2 ( meant for those who are desirous of driving a Mercedes but can not do so for a variety of reasons) or even a Subaru Forester (meant for the newly employed pseudo-professionals out to impress young, vulnerable and entirely materialistic girls). That is my personal loss in this collective loss my dear friends. Simply put, for such contraptions to do even 100km/h is a national disaster, but for my fine machine not to be able to do at least 160km/h is a national shame!. (I have not bragged; i have simply stated objective empirical facts)
