My copy should be arriving soon, but it looks like the publication of the new Bill Cosby biography has reheated the ongoing whatever you want to call it between Cosby and Michael Eric Dyson. Former Newsweek editor Mark Whitaker, the author, deliberately chose not to either address, examine or even raise the specter of multiple marital affairs by Cosby over the years, rumors of them notwithstanding. He did cover the most famous one, but the supposed dissection of Cosbys private life promised in the advance publicity thats been out there all summer apparently isnt so extensive after all. Dyson told NPRs Eric Deggans that Whitaker was seduced by Cosby, and stops just about a millimeter short of calling the book both a hack job and a whitewash. Ironically, that might actually serve the purpose of making more people want to read it. Early reviews have largely been positive, but those have stressed the show business history and inside Hollywood portions. Those who are more interested in the Cosby as racial monologist/social commentator have yet to be heard from (other than Dyson) in their assessment of the book.
