My cousin has asked for HLA Matching. (Human Leukocytes Antigen) : This is mainly done to know the matching donor for the patient needed Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT). Before BMT is done match is searched, first from Sister or Brother of patient. To test HLA is the simple procedure like blood test and samples are taken as we do in blood test. Then it is send to specific laboratory for molecular analysis. You get report within 12-15 days. The HLA record is then feed in BMT Registry. In India 2 registry are popular one Bharat and another Datri world. I would suggest that healthy people in India, should get HLA testing done, it may cost 2500/- to 11,000/- and keep the record with Indian and International Registry. You may know that there are some people in India or abroad are perfectly matched (10/10). Internationally most of the people do the selfless services. There are more than 2-3 crore people HLA profile is available in US but in India it is few thousands. People are not aware of HLA typing and dont even volunteer to donate Bone Marrow. Leave aside the issue but it is the best thing to get your HLA test done and if you yourself needed in time, at least your records are available. At least you know that HLA of your and your sister or brother matches or not. The next possible is your cousins who matches (Phonologically) with you. So go for HLA test and if possible become Bone Marrow donor. The BM donor has to admit for a day in hospital and within an hour his BM is taken from Hip joints. This will be a small portion and you recover your BM within 2-3 days. Usually Donor is discharged within 1-2 days. Perfect Healthy. The Needle hole on hip will be healed within 3-5 days. No major pain but you can save a life. Share as much as we Indians must have knowledge of HLA typing.
