My cousin suggested that I shave my head instead of doing the hair - TopicsExpress

My cousin suggested that I shave my head instead of doing the hair detox.. lol.. hes so funny. So I thought Id explain… I didnt intend to do a hair detox. Ive wanted to try this clay hair wash for a while and finally bought some. Ive been using toxin free shampoo since 2010 so I didnt think there would be much of an adjustment period, but even toxin free shampoos leave plant residues on hair. The residue coats our hair and makes it more manageable and helps seal damage. Doesnt repair damage though, just coats it. I wanted to use something without any soapy effects.. even toxin free shampoo puts soap in the water supply that has to be filtered out. I wanted something that doesnt strip the natural oil. So I got my clay hair wash (from terressentials dot com). As the clay stripped the wheat and oat proteins I quickly became aware that there was going to be an adjustment period. Because I wasnt prepared for it, I thought it would be beneficial for anyone who wanted to try no-poo to tell you what Im going through. Im not going to shave my head, because quite frankly, I really like my hair! Im lucky that I didnt lose it going through cancer treatment (I didnt do chemo) and now Ive got long hair that helps hide the lopsidedness of my post-mastectomy body. I opted not to do reconstruction because I didnt want to complicate my surgery by adding another step to the process.. and also because I wasnt interested in having plastic inside of my body. Thats just me, and its certainly not a criticism for anyone who opts to have breast reconstruction. I hate my scar, and how flat I am on that side. I totally understand the physiological benefit of reconstruction. It just didnt seem to be the right choice for me. And for that reason, Im keeping my long hair ;-)
