My daughter, taking a break from her duties as cook, aboard our research ship. In the background the dark spots are walrus, hauled out on the ice. She had just finished a 3 month back pack tour of Europe with her cousin, and jumped on our boat, and worked her tail off, cooking and baking for up to 28 people. The same day as her photo, this Polar Bear showed up. It had been foggy for 30 days in a row, and in one awesome day, we had sun, Walrus, and Polar Bear. This is Chukchi Sea, the bear population is healthy. While observing Walrus (our assignment) this Bear just hung around. swimming from flow to flow. The scientist figured he was smelling the prime rib in the oven....:-)
